Drivers and navigators talk about the ultimate road race, La Carrera Panamericana. A seven-day, 2,000-mile vintage rally race across México. For 34 years, teams from around the world have come to test themselves in this one-of-a-kind race. This series brings together some of the most successful and experienced teams, to talk about how the race works, the challenges racers face, and why they come back year after year to rally through the beauty of México. Hilaire and Laura Damiron began racing La Carrera Panamericana in 2009. In 2016 they won the race and have been fighting for the overall win every year since. Their 1954 Studebaker, El Commander, is 650hp monster developed exclusively for La Carrera. More than just the racing, the Damirons say it’s the spirit of México the makes this race so special. Brother and sister Edgardo and Angelica Fuentes team up to race what Angelica calls seven days of adrenaline. This is Edgardo’s first Carrera Panamericana as a driver, but his sister has raced it 25 times as a navigator, including an overall win. For the Fuentes family La Carrera Panamericana is about the focus, fun, and teamwork. (16:43)

When the red car with painted flames roars past, everyone knows it is Doug Mockett in his 1954 Oldsmobile 88 Special. Doug has raced La Carrera Panamericana 31 times and always for the overall win. The people and culture keep him coming back to race the roads of México. (25:03)

Karlo Flores races one the most recognizable cars in the Carrera Panamericana, a 1965 Ford GT40 MK1 replica in Gulf blue. Over seven consecutive races Karlo has progressed up the car classifications, racing his first Carrera in a Porsche 356 and now racing his V8 Le Mans monster. As much as the racing, it’s the beauty of México the keeps Karlo coming back. (17:01)

Father and son Harry and Alejandro Luchtan have turned racing La Carrera Panamericana into a celebration of México and of family, deepening their relationship. Their racing motto, “slow is smooth and smooth is fast” has made them one of the top teams in the race. (21:21)
